Fake it Until you Make it: The Valentí Sanjuan Story

This insane man is Valentí Sanjuan. An Ironman, actor, producer, and almost everything in between- Sanjuan is slowly building an impressive resume from scratch. What started out as a simple guest on a local Barcelona radio-show, Valentí decided to take his career into his own hands after his contract expired. Training for Ironman competitions while producing a small-time Youtube show, during the first years of his endeavor, Valentí learned a lot about character, motivation, and pride. The “fake it ’till you make it” attitude is exactly what Sanjuan embraced. In quite humorous fashion, he would convince old-time interviewees to come to his new “show” which was not exactly what he promised. Not a total lie, but a stretch of the truth if you will. After his first guest, he would tell his new guest of the latest on his show which would convince them to attend his new show and the channel began to roll.

As someone who has never ran over three miles in a lifetime, conquering a 2.4-mile (3.86 km) swim, a 112-mile (180.25 km) bike ride, and a marathon 26.2-mile (42.2 km) run- I was immediately inspired by Valentí’s sense of internal willingness in physical form. After gathering recognition from sponsors, Valentí started gathering some gear and more importantly revenue to continue his efforts of becoming the next big late night star- but in his own envisioned sense.

Valentí soon began traveling to locations all across the globe, finding new challenges to conquer and feats to triumph over. This spun off a new brand in which he posted videos of his feats that has inspired hundreds of thousands of people. ValentiEstaLoco, as he has named his Youtube channel, features him in different locations across the globe; from Cuba to Morocco. With carefully located product placement, Valentí gathered even more revenue to bring back to Spain and launch his latest project VistoLoVistoTVthe closest thing to his original idea. A variety show featuring bands, comedy acts, and guests, Valentí started out with a small crowd in smaller venues. Building up the brand and getting more recognition from eventual sponsors like Damm, Sanjuan was able to turn the small variety show into one of the largest late-night shows that garnishes more views than the “Jimmy-Fallon of Spain”.

While it is true it took years and years of hard-work and perseverance to get to where Valentí is today, he would not have wanted it any other way. This is a common theme found not only in his videos and books, but in his soul. It is an inherit sense inside of him that has brought him to the heights he is at today. As someone who aspires to make a brand for myself, Valentí has taught me the most important aspect of doing that: be something new! Find out what makes you different in this world of 8 billion people and run with it. Stay true to who you are, keeping fighting until the finish line, and most importantly- fake it ’till you make it. This is the Valentí Sanjuan story.
